<ethos> was formed in 1998 on the campus of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Beginning as three students from the music department, the band soon began to take shape when improvisational jams yielded some exciting song compositions. In its infancy <ethos> often performed with as many as fifteen musicians on stage jamming to early renditions of what would soon be staples of future <ethos> performances. Fairly quickly, the band had enough material to record a first CD, titled “The Definition”. As the band rehearsed more and developed a tighter sound the size of the group boiled down to the current six core members. The group spent about a year recording the latest CD, “Hearing Things” in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The band began performing on campus at the UAF Pub. They branched out to other local Fairbanks bars and eventually starting hitting the road. They have played in quite a few Alaskan towns including Anchorage, Talkeetna, Delta Junction, Valdez, Homer (where Jewel and Tom Bodett are from), Kodiak Island, Healy, Juneau, Fox, Girdwood, and others. It wasn’t unusual for the music to go on all night. Although we’ve gotten great comments from people who have heard the music in the lower 48 states and as far away as Antarctica, the band hasn’t traveled out of the state yet.
